Term 3 Week 7 Maori legends, flying and onesies.

We listened to the story of Awarua the flying taniwha this week.

We made a collage picture of Awarua.

We thought about flight for the rest of the week. We tried the flying teabag experiment and talked about how it works – a bit like a hot air balloon. The flame warms the air that then moves around quickly and becomes less dense – so the teabag will fly.

We looked at the 4 principals of flight and created some flying machines and some loop planes. Some children decided to modify their designs to see if the planes would fly further.

Thanks to everyone that supported onesie day for the Wellington free ambulance. We did some onesie art and had a hot chocolate as a class treat.

We were so lucky to have Paul Beavis the author and illustrator visit our school. He ran a fabulous session for the Rainbow Team -  showing us how to be illustrators too.

  1. What a cool week Room 16. I am looking forward to more interesting Māori legends next week for Te wiki o te reo Māori.
